Tebogo’s New Life

Tebogo, his two siblings and his mother are enjoying a whole new life, thanks to Save the Children South Africa's support.

Project Completed: May 2012

As a single mother and in poor health, Tebogo’s mother was struggling to care for her family. Luckily, her community noticed and told the local Child Care Forum who began to support them. Save the Children helped the family access social services so his mother now receives medicine and money for food and essentials. With a healthier mother, Tebogo no longer worries. Instead, he goes to school and plays, just like any other 7 year-old.

Tebogo’s mother explains how their life has improved: “We live in the shacks. When Save the Children came, they found me in poor health. I was regularly becoming sick because I was thinking about what my children were going to eat. Now I no longer become sick and I have a healthy life.

Tebogo is happy now, he has toys and has breakfast in the morning. He attends school very well now. Save the Children has helped me by giving my children a roof, it helped by giving me and my children clothes and blankets. Save the Children not only changed my life, they also changed the lives of my children.”

South Africa is marked by high levels of violence and exploitation of children in places where they should be safe. All children should thrive in a safe environment.

Health & Nutrition

Health & Nutrition

No child under the age of 5 should die from preventable disease and all our children deserve long-term good health.

Children's Rights

Children's Rights

Insufficient resources prevent children from achieving their rights as enshrined in the South African Constitution. We are campaigning for a strengthened child-rights system.
